Nobel Physics 2026: Francis Halzen and IceCube

Francis Halzen won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to IceCube and the discovery of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos. Located at the South Pole, IceCube detects Cherenkov light from charged secondary particles produced by neutrino interactions in Antarctic ice. Electrically neutral neutrinos are not deflected by cosmic magnetic fields, making them useful messengers for studying distant high-energy sources.
